Posture Lesson by The Tiara Pageant Training India (9823156193) Posture and DeportmentAll your life you've been told "stand up straight...watch your posture". Hopefully you have taken that advice. You will look better and have more energy if you do. PostureGood posture and spinal balance is essential for physical and mental health. PostureActually, there is much more to posture than most people realize. Your posture is influenced by the condition and position of your spinal bones, muscles and ligaments, and the condition they are in.PostureHaving correct posture actually helps you to be calmer, more relaxed, more physically and mentally stable PostureGood posture is a comfortable and relaxed state that produces poise, energy and vitality! It takes awareness and commitment to make changes to your posture. PostureA good posture is an invariable attribute of a good personality. PostureA good posture has a lot to do with demeanour, gait and body language. A professional model is trained to walk straight, square the shoulders and suck in the stomach. PostureIf one stands upright one looks serene, in control, not to mention slimmer and more elegant. You could be sure of your posture if you develop the following habits until they become second nature to you.PostureAlways stand tall, head high, shoulders down and back, midriff pulled in, derriere neatly tucked away.PostureThe importance of good posture cannot be undermined. Will Rogers rightly remarked, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression". PostureFrom the moment you get up in the morning until you go to bed at night, your day is filled with opportunities to improve your posture. PostureRemember your posture as you sit down to breakfast, walk to the car, get into it, or when you do your telephoning. Remember it when you walk up steps, do household chores and when you are out shopping. Make it a habit to check on yourself throughout the day.Natural Stance Instructions • Stand with your feet side by side, about shoulder width apart. • Raise up on the balls of your feet. • Now gradually lower your heels until they just barely touch the floor. • Push your sternum out slightly. • Tuck your chin in a little. • And, this is going to feel a little weird, lean forward ever so slightly from your hips. 1. Accidents, injuries and falls2. Poor sleep support (mattress)3. Excessive weight4. Visual or emotional difficulties5. Foot problems or improper shoes6. Weak muscles, muscle imbalance7. Careless sitting, standing, sleeping habits8. Negative self image9. Occupational stress10. Poorly designed work space The secret of good posture is very simple. Imagine a rucksack extending from the shoulders to the buttocks, pulling you back, throwing your chest forward, pulling in the stomach muscles and tightening the muscles of your bottom. Arms should be held loosely behind the seams of the skirt. The hip or pelvic bones should be on an imaginary upward tilt. This is the foundation on which you can build the habit of good deportment. Stand with the back of your head touching the wall and your heels six inches from the baseboard. With your buttocks touching the wall, check the distance with your hand between your lower back and the wall, and your neck and the wall. If you can get within an inch or two at the low back and two inches at the neck, you are close to having excellent posture. If not, your posture may need professional attention to restore the normal curves of your spine Good PostureGood Posture = Good Health Standing A matter of balance. StandingStand tall and do not slouch.StandingA handbag tucked under the arm gives the body focus, and a glass held by the stem gives you balance. StandingKeep the knees together when standing still, the weight on one leg and the other slightly bent with the foot pointing outwards.Walking Practice walking on high heels by laying a piece of tape on the floor in a straight line. WalkingWalk head held high; chin parallel to the floor, legs together, arms relaxed and fingers curled to the sides. Be ProudYour body belongs to you — be proud of it, show it off to advantage by holding yourself with poise and dignity.Do..... • Be relaxed and natural • Keep your movements fluid • Keep your chin level • Keep your knees loose • Keep your head up Do.....• Keep your shoulders sloping and relaxed • Keep your toes pointed forward with your weight on heels and soles • Keep the front of your neck loose - don't stretch it • Keep abdominal muscles relaxed • Keep your back muscles relaxed • Smile! Don't..... • Drop or hunch your shoulders • Move stiffly or jerkily • Drop or tuck in your chin when trying to sing low notes • Stretch your head upward when trying to sing high notes • Strain or push your abdominal muscles Exercises• For these exercises you will need:• A long mirror (preferably full length) • A largish book of medium weight • Wear comfy loose clothingExercises• Wear flat shoes, trainers or bare feet. • A flat long surface i.e., hallway or enough room to walk several paces. • A friend who can observe and make constructive comments & notes. • Patience & a good sense of humour! • All movements should be fluid and breathing natural. • Place the mirror in a position at the end of the hallway or room where you can see the whole of (or at the least the top half) of your body. • Stand facing the mirror. Study how you stand and compare with the Do's and Don'ts above and make adjustments to your posture if necessary. ExercisePlace the book centrally on the top of your head. Stand at the end of the walk space and walk naturally towards the mirror observing your movements and posture as you walk. Walk normally towards the mirror, observing your posture as you walk. If your posture is correct and your movements are smooth then the book will remain in place - if not it will fall! Repeat this exercise until you can walk the length of the space without the book falling. For a good relaxed deportment, carry yourself in an upright posture. Make sure there are no tense parts in your body, e.g., in your hands, knees, feet or bodyWomen, keep your stomach in and curve your upper arms out and your lower arms back in making a graceful curve with your hands in front of your waist; no hands on hips; to display a fine gown, you may also curve your arms out instead of in; walk smoothly and gracefully.

Hi Mrs. Ritika Ramtri Kumar,

I am a Bangalore based attorney and would like to improve my image with focus on my dress & looks [and, if possible, diction and enunciation]. The emphasis here is on some advance training, because I have been told that I carry myself very well and I know I am very articulate.

I have a couple of questions:

Do you provide training in Bangalore?

I am not looking at participating in any pagaent, but am interested in improving my physical appearence. I may not want to be one. but looking like one sure does not hurt, right? :-) I would like to know what it entails. Can you help? BTW, I am 28.

It would be great if you have some literature/ prospectus which you can share with me in this regard.

Thanks and have a great day!

Kalpana
